ACR Draft #1

Pack 1 pick 1:

My Pick:

Sticking with a single colored card is important here, since most of the good cards in this pack are red. I’m shipping alot of green and white cards, so I’m going to try avoiding Naya unless I’m forced into it, leaving me with Jund or Grixis as my most likely shards.
Pack 1 pick 2:

My Pick:

Ok then. Grixis or 5cc it is.
Pack 1 pick 3:

My Pick:

I’m enamored with Esper at the moment, and this would lead nicely into five color, AND doesn’t give the guy to my left a reason to be in Esper, leaving me with some goodies in pack two hopefully(I prefer the U/B/r Grixis). Note that it’s totally fine to ship something good that sends a good signal, like a Naya Charm or Wooly Thoctar here. It makes your card quality in pack 2 much better.

Pack 1 pick 4:

My Pick:

Pack 1 pick 5:

My Pick:

Ding! Red really dried up, so this is a viable alternative. Bone Splinters is no good in my vision of Esper, and not great in most Grixis builds(the Unearth oriented ones excepted). I am not even sure what I am yet, so I’m taking the Esper card.
Pack 1 pick 6:

My Pick:

Well I found the Red. Panorama is acceptable here too, but generally my fixing comes from the last two packs.
Pack 1 pick 7:

Pack 1 pick 8:

Pack 1 pick 9:

My Pick:

Wow, all the Bant and Naya cards are gone, leaving me with this bonus. My pack WAS pretty good.

Pack 2 pick 1:

My Pick:

This pack sucks for me. I’m clearly base Grixis now from the ultra late Cultist, probably R/B/u. No one gives any respect to Elder Mastery, and it usually tables. If it doesn’t, that’s a really bad sign. Usually you can’t support more than one dedicated Grixis player, as Jund and Esper chop up many of your best cards. Let’s hope.
Pack 2 pick 2:

My Pick:

I will get a goodie back from this one.
Pack 2 pick 3:

My Pick:

This was probably my only straight up bad pick. Admittedly, I can’t really deal with this card, so at least I have that to fall back on. That said, I probably should have went with the Molten Frame or Alchemist even though I only have one blue permanent.
Pack 2 pick 4:

My Pick:

Have I ever said I hate Conflux? Seems that whatever I’m in always dries up to the point of gone, then comes flooding back all in one pack.
Pack 2 pick 5:

My Pick:

I despise this card, but it’s like crappy removal, and with me having the monopoly on pingers, he gets better.
Pack 2 pick 6:

My Pick:

I need dudes now, and although this guy probably won’t ever come down on two, he’s good later in the game.
Pack 2 pick 7:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 8:

My Pick:

Ugh. Pros don’t like Voices, but I think it’s the sauce. Unless your position is untendable, you almost always win after you cast this card for two or more. Still, the Sphere is more consistent, and lets me basically splash anything I want now.
Pack 2 pick 9:

My Pick:

Yay!
Pack 2 pick 10:

My Pick:

And there’s the goodie. I’d rather have this one than the Remains anyway. My deck is going to be slow and defensive.

My Sphere pick already paying dividends.
Pack 3 pick 2:

My Pick:

Pack 3 pick 3:

My Pick:

This card is amazing, more amazing than you know. Cheap effective removal that can randomly serve as a bad pump spell.
Pack 3 pick 4:

My Pick:

Ok at some point I need to get back to consistency. This helps out alot.
Pack 3 pick 5:

My Pick:

Very underrated card in any deck that can cast him.
Pack 3 pick 6:

My Pick:

Cast Rebirth, bringing back Terminate and killing your guy. Ahh dreams…if you don’t like this card you can take the Grimblade, but this card is a clear blowout anytime you play it.
Pack 3 pick 7:

My Pick:

Pack 3 pick 8:

My Pick:

Pack 3 pick 9:

My Pick:

As predicted, this guy came back. He’s a staple creature in this archetype, dealing some damage, giving you some info, then dying for the cause.
Pack 3 pick 10:

My Pick:

I don’t like weak cascade cards with all the useless stuff I could flip.

I’m feeling quite sick, so I can’t even figure out how to post the decklist I used. I will say that Courier’s Capsule, Gargoyle, and Child of Alara didn’t make my deck since the last pack was so incredible. My splashes were Intimidation Bolt and Vengeful Rebirth. I suffered from inconsistency issues with my mana, causing me to mulligan regularly, but thought I built it right, and won the draft pretty easily(though it was a 4-3-2-2. Hey I joined whatever was going to fire faster). When I’m not sick I’ll be a little more descriptive on the match coverage, but this time honestly there wasn’t much to tell.

Till next time,

Nigel
