ACR #5

Pack 1 pick 1:

My Pick:

I’ve been avoiding Naya pretty actively lately, mainly because I have barely drafted it in ACR. I wish there wasn’t a removal spell in the pack so I could nab Wild Nacatl here.
Pack 1 pick 2:

My Pick:

I have an unhealthy love affair with Agony Warp, and U/B shards in general.
Pack 1 pick 3:

My Pick:

My potential first three picks of Wild Nacatl, Naya Battlemage and then Mana plasm or Surprise Kitty sure would have made this draft go differently. Instead, I have three removal spells from four colors, and I’m not sure where I’m at. I don’t like being true 5 color, so we’ll have to wait for a clear signal.
Pack 1 pick 4:

My Pick:

This pack sure must have been good. I decide on not adding the fifth color to my deck  in my fourth pick, despite Branching Bolt being so amazing right now. I could still be esper, since pack 2 for esper is pretty good, and I haven’t shipped anything obvious to my left.
Pack 1 pick 5:

My Pick:

I should have probably taken the Obelisk here, but this was kind of a steam pick, and it gives me three white cards, even if I might not play this one.
Pack 1 pick 6:

My Pick:

Pack 1 pick 7:

My Pick:

Now there is a signal. W/x aggro seems open.
Pack 1 pick 8:

My Pick:

Yep, very open. This guy is a higher pick than ever before, since the format is quite fast. One drops are at a super premium now.
Pack 1 pick 9:

My Pick:

I could take Lookout and expect to play it just as much as I may expect to play this card, but this card is more annoying.
Pack 1 pick 10:

My Pick:

Pack 1 pick 11:

My Pick:

Oh yeah. We gonna do this. And although we have no amazing blue cards, it’s probably going to be  U/W since all the good cards in this pack were greenish.

Pack 1 pick 15:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 1:

My Pick:

This is a sign of commitment to the plan.  This card is more powerful than Gleam, and I want alot of artifacts from the last two packs.
Pack 2 pick 2:

My Pick:

Not where I wanted to take that card, but I have to cut pretty hard for it to work. If I didn’t care so much, the Brackwater would get the nod instead.
Pack 2 pick 3:

My Pick:

Turn 1 Squire turn 2 flying Squire is a pretty powerful opening.
Pack 2 pick 4:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 5:

My Pick:

I could take Lapse here I guess, but I’m still thinking I’m going to have a splash color.
Pack 2 pick 6:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 7:

My Pick:

This deck is going to be amazing.
Pack 2 pick 8:

My Pick:

Not alot of artifacts yet, but again, we are gonig to have more, and one drops are so important in this deck.
Pack 2 pick 9:

My Pick:

If things go to heck, this might actually make the deck.
Pack 2 pick 10:

My Pick:

Beats up my creatures something bad.

Pack 3 pick 1:

My Pick:

Looking back, I should have easily picked the Stormblade. I had the Paladin in a draft a week or so ago, and it was awesome. Consistency is king in these decks though, making this choice poor.
Pack 3 pick 2:

My Pick:

An exalted two drop is more important than the Flash creature right now.
Pack 3 pick 3:

My Pick:

Someone is going to have an awesome Jund deck to my left.
Pack 3 pick 4:

My Pick:

This was the point where I realized my Paladin pick was wrong. W/U was so wide open, and this card is just awesome if you have a dominant number of exalted guys to flip with it.
Pack 3 pick 5:

My Pick:

Sureblade is a better card, but I’m 100% on board with the attack for 3 on turn two plan.
Pack 3 pick 6:

My Pick:

Seriously, I’m 100%!
Pack 3 pick 7:

My Pick:

Perfect time to pick this guy.
Pack 3 pick 8:

My Pick:

Ok that’s enough of those. A finisher wouldn’t hurt here.
Pack 3 pick 9:

My Pick:

Enough unless it’s all there is.

I eneded up with a super agressive W/U deck, no splash. I played all five 1/3 Exalted Artifacts. 18 Creatures, Ardent Plea, Oblivion Ring, Call to Heel, Resounding Wave, Lapse of Certainty, and Resounding Silence rounded out my spells along with 8 Plains and 8 Islands.

I crushed most of my opponents, losing only one game where I mulled a three Island hand to a two Island hand to a one Island hand. Even the games where I suspected a board sweeper from an opponent, I held a flier and an exalted guy back for insuance. You can’t draft a deck like this all the time, but as you can see, when you get the signal that it is open, you usually jump at it, and without question if you are unsure of what you are with no bombs, like I was.
