Pack 1 pick 1:

My Pick:

For once in my life, I choose consistency over fun/tricky. The troll is just a machine in this format, and isn’t stopped by the best two common removal spells(Bolt and Blade). I look to be White or possibly Red(the goods have to come to me for that though) to go with my beefy man.

Pack 1 pick 2:

My Pick:

You don’t see that very often. The exact same Uncommon run twice in a row. I found out later the guy to my right took a U/B dual land(I might too).

Pack 1 pick 3:

My Pick:

I should have taken either Dragon Whelp or Pacifism here. My hate of Red and my love of Looting took over though. I ignored the fact I just shipped two Wind Drakes and grabbed Loots. I hope it doesn’t come back to bite me later.

Pack 1 pick 4:

My Pick:

Well if all I ever ship that way is two Wind Drakes, I can still cut blue.

Pack 1 pick 5:

My Pick:

I considered this a signal, but I’m worried about green drying up.

Pack 1 pick 6:

My Pick:

And the confusion begins. I take Sign in Blood, no longer knowing at all what colors I am. I can start a deck with Loot, Scatter, King Banshee, and Sign, skipping my Trolls if I have to.

Pack 1 pick 7:

My Pick:

Now I decide I want to play my Trolls and just take any old Green card I see.

Pack 1 pick 8:

My Pick:

I think if I take Sign in Blood here my deck doesn’t end up crappy in the end. This gave me three Green, three Blue, and two Black, and all at least marginally playable.

Pack 1 pick 9:

My Pick:

Might as well make it all threes instead. Gotta leave my options open ya know?

Pack 1 pick 10:

My Pick:

This may not seem significant, but not taking the Spearhunter has value. First, you really don’t give a crap about it unless you’re White or Red. Second, if it goes to whoever took Dragon Whelp, it solidifies his position in Red more. You can force feed a color sometimes in this format, and you don’t always have to ship them bombs, just a steady stream of lukwarm stuff(this goes out the window in either pack two or three, depending on how solid your deck looks and how play-nice the draft went. After your deck looks locked in hate away if you want).

Pack 1 pick 11:

My Pick:

Another Red gift for someone. Not great, but playable.

Pack 1 pick 12:

My Pick:

I had to MD this card, and it was actually insane, but I don’t reccomend it all the time.

Pack 1 pick 13:

My Pick:

Pack 1 pick 14:

My Pick:

This is a spoiler, but THIS card also made my deck. Try to guess what I opened. Here’s one hint. It’s not Baneslayer.

Pack 1 pick 15:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 1:

My Pick:

I can tell my draft is going to hell, and I’m just along for the ride. I hope to god I get some Borderland Rangers.

Pack 2 pick 2:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 3:

Pack 2 pick 4:

Pack 2 pick 5:

My Pick:

I didn’t include any commentary on the last several picks because honestly there’s little logic behind them other than I’m hoping and praying that the fact that I cut Green pretty hard works out for me. It looks like it did, and now I have at least ONE color I have to play because I simply can’t not play the color with almsot all my dudes.

Pack 2 pick 6:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 7:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 8:

My Pick:

This was me trying to pick a second color, but mostly I took it because I do NOT like either Green choice. I already have a Craw Wurm, and Runeclaw Bears usually isn’t very good.

Pack 2 pick 9:

My Pick:

Pack 2 pick 10:

My Pick:

Man, my deck really got messed up. This card would have been my 23rd, except I decided to just play 18 lands instead of two Disenchant effects. have you figured out what I opened yet?

Pack 3 pick 1:

My Pick:

Yet another crazy pick. I honestly took this card NOT because I wanted to play it, but I wanted some tix. The opportunity cost was sort of steep in the second Awakener Druid, but I sure as hell didn’t want to play against it. It’s not actually the reason I went White after all the flip flopping…

Pack 3 pick 2:

My Pick:

THIS is the reason, combined with the Ajani. Ok time to take White cards, and still hope for a Ranger or Rampant Growth for Doom Blade, and then I can play all my first picks.

Pack 3 pick 3:

My Pick:

Wow, I could get a gift back from this, and I know I’ll need it since my dekc has under 15 playables right now.

Pack 3 pick 4:

My Pick:

That hurts, passing the second Doom Blade. I swear I almost took it and hoped for yet another fixer, then decided I want to win at least one round.

Pack 3 pick 5:

My Pick:

This is going pretty damn well. I bet I really fucked someone to my left too.

Pack 3 pick 6:

My Pick:

A card that is never good for me, and always the nuts for my opponents. I figured I would need a way to win.

Pack 3 pick 7:

My Pick:

I was frustrated that this was here at pick 7, and would have crumpled it up if I could after I took it.

Pack 3 pick 8:

My Pick:

This card is good against my deck, and I’m still hoping for better picks than Wall of Faith.

Holy crap this deck is bad. Even though my swap was more or less a success, it’s way short on good cards and only has 13 guys. I won’t describe my matches in great detail since my notes are hard for even me to read, but I had some VERY entertaining games with this pile of crap. A few highlights:

Activating Ajani on turn five with only A Visionary in play.

Fogging the attack on Ajani the next turn.

My only Forest getting Assassinated.

Winning a game through Sleep by casting Fog, drawing the counter, and Doom Blading their best guy.

Not playing a second land after mulling on the draw until turn SIX while my opponent stalled on two for four turns. Oddly, if I drew a Plains to go with my Forest I could play six cards from my hand.

My opponent NOT going “all in” on Dragon Whelp to make me Fog , and when I DO Fog he counters it, but taps his last Mountain leaving me alive when he didn’t have to. D’oh.

If you care, I made it to the finals with this thing, where that mana screw story occured game one. I mulled game two and stalled on land there too. Oh well. It’s a damn miracle I made it that far.
